Climbing to the mountaintop

The landscape of our life is full of mountains and valleys. We mature with every step we take along our journey and become wiser and stronger for it. We’re constantly improving and growing. When we stop doing that, our purpose here is complete.   When facing the valleys of life, it can be very seductive to just settle in and have a pity party. Many times people cave into the temptation and stay in that frame of mind for a while. They lie down and cry and keep crying until they’ve … [Read more...]

Wow! I know we’re all asking ourselves where did the summer go? Everyone is scrambling to get their kids ready to head back to school for another year of growing and learning. Tax-free weekend means it’s time to start grabbing up the last bit of what is needed to go back into the classroom. You’ll inevitably fight crowds in parking lots and malls all over town trying to get everything crossed off of your list. It’s only the beginning of another crazy school year. Many of you are just … [Read more...]

Vacation Mode

The Dive group at Deep Blue in Cozumel

Many of you know I recently went on a much anticipated and greatly appreciated vacation. I feel so blessed to have been able to get away for 6 days. Vacation mode for me is super relaxed. I allowed myself to put away all the things I’m working on at home and just be. I slept, ate, went scuba diving, took in the beautiful scenery, ate and slept some more. Did I mention that I slept? I might have slept a lot. It was wonderful! I especially loved being under water again and seeing that … [Read more...]

You like me, you really like me!

“Criticism is something you can easily avoid by saying nothing, doing nothing, being nothing.” ~ Aristotle   When we are children, we crave the approval of our parents. If we do something wrong, we are met with unpleasant consequences and disapproval. We strive to do better. This is how our conscience is formed. We learn morals and grow up to understand societal expectations for our behaviour. We care what people think of us. However, it’s not always in our best interest to … [Read more...]

2014 FIFA World Cup

USA Starting 11

Once every 4 years, average Americans turn into soccer fans. Yes, I know some of you are REAL fans. It’s just that most of us are sort of fair weather fans. My son played soccer when he was young but as he got older, American football and pole vaulting took most of his time. As I sat watching the match between USA and Portugal, I was so confused. I couldn’t remember what the rules were! Then I remembered a Facebook post from a friend that claimed to help people like me understand the … [Read more...]

What do you do for FUN?

thDVHHI10G

To this day my kids still talk about “the place where mom went down the water slides with us!” I remember as my husband walked off with the kids to go swim, I sat there enjoying the peace and quiet.   Sitting there looking pretty, I didn’t dare move cause others may see my imperfections.  As I people watched, I couldn’t help but notice a trend…all the women were sitting around covered up and looking pretty and all the dads were smiling, wet and having FUN!!! I … [Read more...]

Bonuses & Birthdays

Monet's Garden

Everyone has been so kind with messages for my birthday.  My "bonus birthday" as a cancer sister called it.  A term I have heard women use when they lived beyond the time frame thought possible due to their situation.   That wording might be a somber thought to some, but to me it is one that brings a sense of deep gratitude. It was in May, just about the date of my birthday in 2007 when I woke up and realized one breast was different. Everything about my life was changed from that … [Read more...]
